Reflection (Last post!)

Alas...

I have come to my tenth and last post...

What I learned from blogging about fanfiction... I learned that blogging can be quite fun (when you know what you want to write about. The thinking part was a bit bothersome. But then again thinking is good. But then again, again, thinking too much is bad.) and that some fanfiction are really amazing. Really daebak*.

  1. *As an exclamation, daebak generally means “awesome”. It's not a direct translation, but it's the meaning that is conveyed when the word is said. - According to http://blog.korea.net/?p=6917

Doing the blog was one of my most relaxed projects. Among all my projects, schoolwork and whatnot, doing the blog gave me little burden. I could be myself and write in a way that was comfortable. It also forced me to think. I had to think of how I was going to organize everything, from the structure to the font, to the font size. I wanted to make my posts enjoyable both visually and content wise. I am not the 'technical' type of person so I depended on gifs and pictures. Doing the blog was a stress reliever from Economic essays that require too much thinking and sadness.

What I learned about my topic... I learned a lot. First of all I chose the topic because out of all the other topics I would have chosen, I figured I would have been able to enjoy doing this the most. And I was right, of course. Truthfully, it had been a few weeks (or months) since I had read a decent fanfiction before I started this blog, so I was a bit afraid on whether I would actually enjoy blogging about it. But once I started, I looked up the many fanficitons I read before and immediately, the sparks came back.

The feels came back.

I realized that wow, there are so many talented writers out there. I wonder what it would be like if some of those amazing fanfictions were published into books. OR EVEN MADE INTO MOVIES. HOW COOL WOULD IT BE TO HAVE AN 'ANTEROGRADE TOMORROW' MOVIE OR A '48 HOURS' MOVIE. Would 'regular' people read (OR WATCH) them? To be honest, if the kpop fanfiction writers change the characters' name into 'normal' names, I think they would have a significantly wider range of audiences. Except, that wouldn't make them 'kpop fanfictions' anymore.

I just hope that kpop fanfiction would get more recognition in the future.

That's the end of my post!

I truly hope that whoever read my posts enjoyed them as much as I enjoyed writing them!

Until next time?

Bye Bye

2 Kaisoo Oneshots and 1 Drabble

Because Kaisoo is the best.

Kaisoo is a ship/OTP of Kai (real name Jongin) and Kyungsoo (stage name D.O).

Kai + Kyungsoo = Kaisoo

First up!

Green Apples

They've known each other for so long that Jongin doesn't know what it means to be without Kyungsoo.

This is a Kaisoo fanfiction written by a writer that goes by the pen name of adorableprince.

'Green Apples' is a simple and sweet fanficiton about how Kai and Kyungsoo's relationship progresses through time, from their first meeting in Kindergarten to their days in University.

Some memorable and adorable extracts that show their close, close relationship:

"You're looking for a red crayon, right?" Kyungsoo whispers in an unsure tone when Jongin continues to stare blankly at him.

"Yes," Jongin stutters. "But don't you need it? Your apple isn't colored."

"It's okay, I can color it green."

Jongin wrinkles his nose in disgust. "Green apples are icky."

"They are," Kyungsoo nods solemnly.

"Then why would you give your red crayon to me?"

"You looked really sad."

Jongin decides that they'll be the best of friends because anyone that's willing to eat sour apples just so he can be happy is worth keeping around.

Jongin scowls at the screen of his phone, sprawled across his mattress and chin propped up on his pillow. His fingers fumble over the keypad as he sends Kyungsoo a text message.

J: You left me with Sehun and he's a shitty replacement for a best friend.

He doesn't have to wait long before his phone vibrates and flashes with a new message.

K: Be nice.

Jongin frowns.

J: Be nice? I'm dying here all alone and forced to listen to Sehun talk about his crush on the Chinese transfer student and all you have to say is be nice? I hope you get hit by a car.

K: Would it make you feel better if I said my new high school sort of sucks?

J: It's because I'm not there to grace the halls with my presence.

K: Nice to see that your ego is still fine.

J: My ego is always fine.

K: Jongin, why are you even texting me? It's almost 2am.

J: Just wanted to make sure you didn't forget that I'm your best friend and the greatest person in the whole world. Did you replace me already?

K: Of course not. But I did make a new friend today.

The next message Jongin receives has a picture attached to it. He opens it and scans the image with scrutiny before typing in his response.

J: He looks like a serial killer.

K: His name is Park Chanyeol and he is not a serial killer.

J: His eyes look crazy and he smiles too wide. He's a serial killer.

K: I'm going to ignore you and sleep now. Goodnight.

J: Kyungsoo?

J: Hello?

J: Heeelllooo?

K: I SAID GOODNIGHT.

Next Up!

like a disney movie (yes it has no capital letters)

kyungsoo falls sick and loses his voice one day at work so baekhyun and luhan play a practical joke on him that ends with more benefits than consequences.

This is a Disney-themed Kaisoo fanfiction written by Sohee (Ivy), a half-korean girl, that also goes by the pen name: kiwi_ism .

'like a disney movie' is an adorable fanfiction that takes place in an amusement park. In this fanfiction, mischievous co-workers/ friends Luhan and Baekhyun do stupid and annoying things to voiceless Kyungsoo.

Some memorable extracts that kind of give glimpses of what the story is about:

Eventually Luhan steals a little whiteboard that hangs in the back office and hangs it around Kyungsoo instead. And then Baekhyun, another co-worker, writes out a little message for customers with his neat, scrawling handwriting.

I can’t speak! Ursula the witch stole my voice! But I’m happy to assist you.

Once again, the two laugh at his misfortune while Kyungsoo silently sighs and continues to work. At least this way everyone will know that Kyungsoo lost his voice.

Kyungsoo looks down when he feels a tug on the hem of his shirt, smiling when he sees a little girl looking at him imploringly. “Where are the lollipops, mister?” she asks.

Holding up the sign Luhan placed around his neck earlier, he maintains his smile and points to the left where they keep all the candy. However, the girl seems very much engrossed with his note, reading it out loud to herself. When she finishes, she gasps and begins to tug at his shirt urgently again. “Don’t worry mister! I’ll break the spell for you.” she holds out her hand for Kyungsoo who blinks and hesitantly takes it before he’s suddenly being dragged off through the store.

“I’m sorry, but there’s an emergency Jongin. You have to help us!” She squirms in his arms as she continues to shout out her defenses. Jongin sets her on the ground and she immediately runs for Kyungsoo, latching herself to his leg and then flopping on the floor to anchor him there. “You have to kiss him,” she announces quite seriously.

Jongin’s expression quickly shifts from amused to horrified and Kyungsoo thinks this would be a really awesome time for Luhan to pop out and stab him to death or something else to that extent. “What?” Jongin chokes out. “Come on, stop bothering this poor guy.” He moves to pry Sooyoung from Kyungsoo’s leg but she snaps her teeth at him in retaliation.

“No! You have to!” she fusses beginning to make a scene as other patrons turn their heads to stare at the three of them. “The evil sea witch, Ursula, stole his voice and he needs his true love’s kiss to break his spell and get his voice back!”

The fanfiction: http://kiwi-ism.livejournal.com/63711.html

Lastly!

Not A Vampire

Kyungsoo is NOT a vampire. Really.

This humorous fanfiction is written by roro from the United States that also goes by the pen name of afterwejump.

'Not A Vampire' is a really short and funny drabble. If it doesn't make you laugh, it would make you go 'lol'. Basically, it starts with the usually calm Kyungsoo coming home not calm and in which, as quoted, he has 'balloon syndrome'. Jongin is playing a Pokemon game.

Some memorable and stuff extracts that are 'lol':

Usually, Kyungsoo was pretty patient, but he had what Jongin coined balloon syndrome: Kyungsoo would allow his stress to accumulate, slowly filling him up and expanding and expanding until he popped. Like a balloon.

Jongin was in the middle of an intense Pokémon battle, and he couldn’t afford to tear his eyes away from his game. He was only half-listening when he said belatedly, “And?”

“They kept whispering to each other that there was a vampire in Apartment 702,” Kyungsoo said, his voice laced with agitation.

“Hey, that’s our apartment,” Jongin observed, still engrossed in his game.

Shit. His Charizard just fainted. Now he didn’t have a fire-type Pokémon anymore, which was super effective against grass-types.

Kyungsoo looked at his boyfriend with his wide eyes glistening, as if he were about to shed tears. Damnit. For once, Jongin decided to be a good boyfriend and turn off his Gameboy Color. Without saving the game. If that didn’t prove how much he loved Kyungsoo, then nothing would.

I've basically put in a good portion of the few 536 words.

All these fics are amazing and good for a relaxing, quick read!

That's the end of my post!

Comparison between Crack fics

Today, I'll be comparing two Crack fics if you don't already know from the title.

Office Antics

&

Networking Chaos

A bit of background: Crack fics are basically a genre of fanfiction. According to fanlore.org,
  1. '"Crackfic" is a term for a story which takes a ridiculous premise as its starting point, such as casting all the canon characters as My Little Ponies. It may or may not deal with this premise in a serious way.'
Thus, the two I will be comparing are both ridiculous and entertaining fanfiction.

Office Antics

Citation: "Office Antics." Asianfanfics. n.p. 16 Aug 2012. Web. 16 Nov 2014.

[office!au] Twelve guys and one software startup. Baekhyun’s that new guy, Chanyeol's the guy who falls for the new guy, Kyungsoo has pedo problems, Junmyeon's the oblivious CEO, Kris is the cutthroat CFO, Yixing’s out to get more vacation time, Tao’s a receptionist (sorta), Minseok is a closeted romantic, Jongin’s the intern that actually does stuff, Sehun’s the intern that doesn’t, and Luhan and Jongdae just like messing around.

Networking Chaos

[There is no poster for this and that is sad.]

wherein they're all obsessed with networking sites that only produce chaos and a lot of unhealthy feels.

The comparison:

Authors

Office Antics

The author of 'Office Antics' goes by the pen-name 'Areumdaun'. She has written and published in both Asianfanfics and Livejournal (and maybe also Tumblr). She has written 4 oneshots (one body of text - one chapter), 3 drabbles (a short work of fiction), and 1 multishot(a fic with multiple chapters). Her tumblr bio states:

HI. I'm not very interesting, but I was born in the dead of winter in the northern part of the golden state. I've since migrated to the south, to a warmer city nestled on the coast with soft-sand beaches and surfable waves.
But it's not like I get to see any of that, I'm there for academics, not for the sun. And so I live in the university bubble, sheltered from the world and subject to wide-eyed ideals and youthful optimism. Class of '16, I'll catch the real world on the flip side in four years.
I write fics and things, mostly for fun. But developed plots and words run slow by my fingers, and so my output is monthly at best. I only have two major fics, but thousands of threads of thought lying in wait. We'll see how that goes. My full time attention-span is about good enough for one fandom at a time, and for now I'm on EXO.
I stan Baek and Yeol and Sehun, though Kyungsoo and Tao are pretty fine too (as well as the other 7). My OTP is Baekyeol but I'm inclined to Kaisoo and well Sesoo as well.
In terms of my fandom history, it started with a crush on a storm that that was dropped when I fell head over heels for five gods rising from the east. During their split, I had a brief love affair with the hottest time of day before jaywalking out of there during the turmoil, going fandomless for a few years before finally settling in a place where we're one. Okay that sounded retarded. Basically I went from Arashi to DBSK, from 2PM to Jay Park, to a fandom burnout, before slipping back in for this current EXO stint. And epik high forever, yo, six years with their music and counting <3.'

To my utmost sorrow, Areumdaun has retired from writing fanfiction because she 'outgrew(?) the fandom and she wants to focus more on her future ahead. I wish her luck in her life! Post about leaving -  http://taochui.tumblr.com/post/88157301900/bye

Networking Chaos

The author of 'Networking Chaos' goes by the pen-name of 'Baekhyunnie'. She has written and published in Livejournal in the blog(?) called Mistyblur. She has written a total of 3 oneshots. Although she has not much information about herself, 'Networking Chaos' is still one of the best crack fics in the EXO fandom (at least according to me).

Also to my sorrow, Baekhyunnie's last fanfiction was published on July 2012. So, I think she is not active anymore.

Length

Office Antics

Since this is a multishot, length-wise, it's longer - by a lot. The published chapters total up to 18 and although it has been discontinued, Areumdaun has uploaded a post on how the fanfiction was going to end. This includes: the outline for the rest of the story, unfinished character profiles, and her inspiration for writing the fic. This can be viewed here: http://taochui.tumblr.com/post/88157295430/regarding-the-end-of-office-antics

Networking Chaos

Since this is a oneshot, length-wise, it's shorter - by a lot. The length of the fic is just right though, any longer than that then it would be too much.

Setting and Structure

Office Antics

It takes place in an office, and for multiple chapters, it stays in the office - EXO KM Systems to be exact. Other times, it would be at someone's house or when the characters are out, or when they have a company trip.

The structure of the fanficiton is well organized-ish. With each chapter, the story flows, like a river, like a stream, the sea. Oho. They are connected to one another. But at times, there are chapters that can maybe counted as 'filler chapters', and the purpose of those are to show the tightening relationships between characters, and also for more laughs. Sometimes, chapters are interconnected through parts - this means that one chapter has, for example, three parts and are published separately due to the never ending lengths.

Networking Chaos

It takes place on Tumblr, YouTube, Facebook, a fanfiction site, and Twitter. The characters are using these forms of media. On a paragraph or two, it takes place in a cafe. To sum up the settings (by sections): Tumblr, Tumblr, Tumblr, Facebook Tumblr, Tumblr, Tumblr YouTube-ish, Tumblr, Twitter, YouTube(?) Tumblr, Youtube Twitter, Tumblr Twitter, Twitter, YouTube Facebook, YouTube Fanfiction, Cafe, Tumblr, Cafe, Cafe, Everything & Twitter.

The structure of the fanfiction is also well organized-ish. In each section (separated by more than one 'enters'), it describes a different character's perspective. To sum them up too: Luhan, Tao, Sehun, Jongdae, Sehun, Kyungsoo, Wu Fan, Joonmyeon, Jongin, Baekhyun, Jongdae Kyungsoo, Joonmyeon, Yixing Wu Fan, Chanyeol, Tao Wu Fan, Sehun Luhan, Jongin Kyungsoo, Baekhyun Joonmyeon Chanyeol, Jongdae.

Characters' Character

Office Antics

The characters here have their own distinct character. For example, Chanyeol is the weirdo and Luhan is the devil in disguise. They differ from their actual personalities (based on reality shows and other videos and social media posts and fan accounts) but Areumdaun still manages to include some EXO fandom puns and jokes and words like Baozi.

Unfinished character profiles- http://taochui.tumblr.com/oaprofiles

Networking Chaos

This on the other hand, includes more of the Exo fandom puns, jokes, and words. However, each character still has distinct character that differ from their actual personalities. For example, Jongdae being a ship enthusiast, and Chanyeol being a stalker.

Both fanfiction, same but different, are equally amazing. Both of them made me laugh (A LOT) and although I look forward to more of these types of fanfiction from the talented authors, I know they have a lot going on in their lives so I shall find others to read - if I even have the time, because nowadays I don't.

Anyway, this is the end of today's post!

Bye Bye!

Nocturna Suppressio Review

"Do Kyungsoo likes to dwell on his dreams. He spends hours dreaming, finding them a better place than reality.
But what Kyungsoo fails to realise is that not all good dreams are what they seem to be."

- Nocturna Suppressio by purpleskies

Nocturna Suppressio was suggested to me by my dear sister. She told me to read it quite a long time ago. The foreword and (maybe) the first chapter was uploaded to Asianfanfics on the 17th of February 2013. The fanfiction has a total of 16 chapters. The author of 'Nocturna Supressio' is Purpleskies. And yes, Purpleskies is her pen name.

'Nocturna Supressio' is a story about a teenage boy struggling with life and constantly finding himself falling asleep multiple times in a day. In his dreams, he seems to always encounter a certain person and gradually befriends him.

The fanfic: http://www.asianfanfics.com/story/view/387220/nocturna-suppressio-exo-kai-kyungsoo-kaisoo/18

The story itself starts with Kyungsoo in his dream land. He meets this guy again, a guy (Kai) he almost always sees in his dreams. Kyungsoo falls asleep in such random times of the day, and as time passes by, it becomes even more frequent. After every dream, he finds out more and more about Kai and gradually starts becoming his friend. But the happy place he escapes from reality to changes when dark smoke starts to appear.

I find the story really nice, and creative.

The idea of dreamwalkers is something I rarely (actually never) see in stories, but maybe it's just my lack of knowledge. Kai is a dreamwalker and is stuck in 'dreamland' forever. The only way he can 'wake up' from this nightmare, is to find someone to replace him. Kai chose Kyungsoo.

As time progresses however, Kai realises that Kyungsoo is precious to him and he doesn't want Kyungsoo to suffer the same fate as he did. So in the later chapters, he shows him from up a cliff (in Kyungsoo's dreams of course), millions of lifeless people walking forward. Their faces were emotionless, almost as if their souls had left their bodies. To Kyungsoo's horror, he spots his own body there.

Kai told him he picked Kyungsoo from the bunch of people.

The people there are people who have given up on life and resort to dreams for escape.

Dreamwalkers choose one person, appear in their dreams... and feed on them.

An excerpt:

"Will you tell me now?" Kyungsoo asks, a little anxious at his request. He's hesitant to know yet he wants to. If it will help him sleep at night then he needs to know.

Luhan nods. "What do you really know about Kai?"

Kyungsoo tries not to let his grip tighten at the edges of the book he's been holding as he answers. "He's a dreamwalker."

"That's partly true." Luhan says.

"You said he isn't one."

Luhan gives him a small smile. "Kai refers to himself as a dreamwalker which is sort of true. They walk around people's dreams..."

Kyungsoo looks away as he recalls the amount of times he's walked into his dream.

"And..." The hesitation on Luhan's voice makes Kyungsoo look back at him. "They feed on them."

Kyungsoo stares at Luhan, trying to comprehend what he just said.

"They like the weak." Luhan continues. "They like the ones who give up on life and resort to dreams for an escape."

Me. Kyungsoo starts thinking on all the times he was like this. He is still like this, trying to stay away from reality.

"But a dreamwalker is also known throughout history as an incubus." Luhan takes the book that Kyungsoo has and opens it. Kyungsoo looks at the page he's showing.

"Your nightmare."

The drawing on the page looks like a human. Tall, slender yet well built. But on a closer look, the creature doesn't look human as it stares back at Kyungsoo, grinning with teeth sharp and with eyes blazing red. It's something Kyungsoo is familiar of, something Kyungsoo has heard about but has never once thought is real.

A picture on the bottom of the page shows an incubus hovering over a sleeping person, its long tail curling over the sleeper's neck and its hands stroking the human's cheek.

This... this can't be Kai.

"They try to win you over." Luhan starts, turning another page and Kyungsoo sees an incubus entertaining a human in his dreams. "They show you everything you want to see, take you places you want to go."

Kyungsoo can't breathe as he remembers everything he's been through with Kai,

"They lure you into their world. It's where they have everything. It's where they give you everything."

This isn't true... It can't be.

"These creatures are depicted as demons but they're actually beautiful." Luhan continues. "So beautiful that they seduce you in the end, entice you with their smiles and the way their eyes seem to tempt you in. And when you sleep with them..."

Kyungsoo looks at Luhan.

"They feed on your body."

Kyungsoo laughs nervously. "That... That can't be true. You're making things up. I mean Kai isn't... isn't..."

"Isn't one?" Luhan asks. "Then who or what is he if you don't think he's one?"

Just... Kai. Kyungsoo answers in his head.

"What... what happens if you meet... a dreamwalker?" Kyungsoo dares to ask, avoiding the real name Kai is branded with.

"Like I said, they show you everything. They show you how dreams are better than reality." Luhan answers as he closes the book. "It's true. Dreams are better than what we live in right now. But living in your dreams is dangerous. Your dreams are a very dangerous place."

Kyungsoo balls his hands into fists, trying not to show Luhan how they're shaking.

"An incubus dwells in the dream world and looks for their prey."

Kai can't be one...

"And when they do, they latch on to them like a leech."

Kai annoying him all the time, staying with him in every dream he has.

"And once they have a hold on you, once they're sure they've managed to convince you of staying forever," Luhan says. "They suck the life out of you."

The bags under his eyes. Kyungsoo losing weight. Kyungsoo's transluscent skin. His eyesight.

"They keep you in the dream world."

No, Kyungsoo chokes on the thick air of denial and truth surrounding him as he stumbles back. "That's not true."

"It is." Luhan says, walking towards him but Kyungsoo backs away, staggering from the weight of Luhan's words. "And it shows in your eyes. I can see it."

No, Kyungsoo thinks.  He refuses to believe any of this.

"I saw it in the library the day we met. Your eyes looked different." Luhan stares at him. "And it's getting worse now, isn't it?"

Luhan is someone who experienced this before. His story is explained in the prequel called 'Nightfall'. http://www.asianfanfics.com/story/view/817917/nightfall-hunhan

Overall, 'Nocturna Suppressio' is an intriguing, mysterious, and addictive fanfiction that will keep you guessing for hours and make you make the time to read the entire thing.

It's worth a read!

So,

do read it!

48 Hours

'After 48 hours, only one boy will be alive in this house.'

'48 Hours' is one of the many famous fanfiction in the EXO fandom. It's quite a sadistic story... a very tragic sadistic story. The setting takes place in LA, and Chinese-Canadian member Kris, is the main character. Basically, the twelve members of EXO are trapped inside an enormous house(?) mansion(?) and if there is more than one person alive in the house after 48 hours, all of them will die.

This fanfiction was written in Chinese by a Chinese fan: http://tieba.baidu.com/p/1820645117?see_lz=1

This was then translated to many other different languages. This is the link for the English one: http://lukais.livejournal.com/296.html

In a personal point of view, after reading '48 Hours', my mind was flooded to the brim with information and questions. That night, I woke up multiple times with answers to my own questions about the fanfiction. '48 Hours' generated a lot of questions to the EXO fandom, and you have to read it to know why it confused readers so much. Because of this, many, many, fans decided to share their own opinions about the story. However, the most believed analysis was by a Chinese fan. (http://tieba.baidu.com/p/1872659934?see_lz=1)

This was also translated. (http://chanxun.livejournal.com/738.html)

A snippet:

Question 1
Do you think Xiumin and Chen really died from the start of the game?
1. Xiumin and Chen should have really died from the start.
At first, they were planning to fake their deaths to scare and increase the tension. However, unexpectedly, Xiumin really died. Upon seeing that Xiumin really died, Chen’s world broke down and crumbled to bits. This was because in his heart, this was all just a surprise party, and nothing could have gone wrong; let alone death! Hence, that was why Chen desperately when to try out the pin number lock on the door despite the warnings from his members! In fact, this surprise party had long been swapped and turned into a game of murder. The initially harmless ‘knife’ in the bronze ring around their necks took Chen’s life after he used up all his chances on the door lock. Therefore, right from the beginning, the only two people who knew about the entire setup had been silenced forever.
“Murder at its highest realm, would be using the hands of the dead to kill the living, and again using the living to kill the other living people, because no matter what, the first person to die would never be able to reveal the truth.”
The author had stated very clearly that Xiumin and Chen had already died right from the start! This was because the only two people who knew about the entire setup had been killed from the beginning! Also, as the surprise party was planned by only Xiumin and Chen, it would then be described as “using the hands of the dead to kill the living”.
Moreover, I think that Chen and Xiumin’s disappearances near the closure of the story were also manipulated by a mastermind. If Xiumin and Chen were to be found dead, people would start to suspect that this surprise party was swapped to become a murder game! However, Xiumin’s and Chen’s fates were never revealed; their corpses never seen.
Like this, the surprise party can be said to be the reason that led to the killings amongst the members due to their misconceptions about Xiumin’s and Chen’s deaths!
Hence, even if Xiumin and Chen weren’t dead, they’d still disappear.
Question 2
What did Junmyeon hear when he went downstairs to check out the mirror and what was he trying to tell Kai before his death?
2. What Junmyeon was trying to say was probably, “There are noises in the basement”.
“The thing was that no one knew that Junmyeon, who had been killed with the mirror shard, perhaps might have said in a hoarse voice, “There are noises in the basement.”
Question 3
Why did Baekhyun drew on eyeliner in the middle of the night?
3. This was because the eyeliner was a gift from Jongin; he had reckoned that he wouldn’t have a chance to put it on in the future if he didn’t put it on then.
“Jongin passed a long, intricate box to Baekhyun. Upon opening the box, Baekhyun held up the eyeliner and smiled widely, jumping up to hug Jongin.”
Here it states that the eyeliner was a gift from Jongin to Baekhyun.
“Baekhyun was peculiar wasn’t he; applying the eyeliner that Kim Jongin had given him right in the middle of the night. Are you claiming it’s peculiar only because the first hander, Kris, felt that way?
To the people who found this reaction odd and strange, after getting involved in all the mutual suspicions in the villa, would you behave like Kris, who walked out of the toilet silently even when he knew that Baekhyun was going to die? You are wrong; he precisely was the easiest and stupidest person in the game, stupid to the extent whereby he put friendship before the rules of the game.
He’s a person who would give away his company’s trade secrets the moment an old friend pats his shoulder casually to ask for it. Even if the entire company thinks that he’s a spy, even if the entire world thinks that he had been bribed to give away the trade secret, he’ll think that the only negative impact of giving away that company secret would be that he’ll lose his job in a month.”
We can tell from the author’s words that Baekhyun was purely just putting on eyeliner without any intent or motive. Baekhyun did not deliberately plan anything and neither did he predict for anything to happen. He was simply using the eyeliner that Jongin gifted him with…

How to write Kpop Fanfiction

Today's post will be about:

How to write Kpop Fanfiction

As I said in my second post, fanfiction means fiction stories about a particular subject/interest that are written/typed for a fan's entertainment. Therefore, fanfictions are basically stories.

I'm sure you guys know how to write stories, right? Basically you just have to have a beginning, a middle, and an ending. Kpop fanfiction is no different. What makes most Kpop Fanfiction unique, however, is that they include puns, jokes, and words that only a particular fandom knows. Some fanfiction also include a few simple korean words that every Kpop fan is expected to already know the meaning of.

'General' simple Korean Words

- 'Oppa' : A term used by girls in Korea to call guys older than them

- 'Noona' : A term used by guys in Korea to call girls older than them

- 'Hyung' : A term used by guys in Korea to call guys older than them

- 'Eonni/Unnie' : A term used by girls in Korea to call girls older than them

- 'Tteokbokki' : A common street dish in Korea. Spicy rice cakes

- 'Seonbaenim/Sunbaenim' : Senior (Koreans call their seniors this)

- 'Seongsaengnim' : Teacher

- 'Eomma/Eomeoni' : Mother

- 'Appa/Abeoji' : Father

- 'Halmeoni' : Grandmother

- 'Omo/Aigoo/Aish' : Oh my gosh, oops, used when annoyed

However, excessive usage of these words tend to annoy most readers. So be careful.

Other than that, as I mentioned before, each fandom has their own jokes, puns, and words. For example, in the EXO fandom:

'Roll like a buffalo'

'Chicken'

'Dyodoro'

BTS Fandom:

'Awwww yeahh'

'Sassy maknae'

These may seem weird for people who are not in EXO's or BTS' fandom, but are perfectly normal/funny for those who are.

Some other things to be careful about (besides excessive usage of the korean words) are (like most stories) clichés, and fanfiction that are like play scripts ...

These play-script-like fanfiction again, tend to annoy readers with their stage directing. That plus excessive korean words and a cliché, oho no. (Paraphrase: http://www.theoneshots.com/2014/04/six-types-of-terrible-k-pop-fanfiction/)

I quote an example:

Excerpt:
“insert your name here” : What do you mean, Oppa?! I love you! Don’t you understand?!?!
Oppa: I don’t know what to do “insert your name here.” This is so hard.
“insert your name here”: I left the f*****g country for you, I left my home, my family, my friends …  just so we can be TOGETHER!
(crying)
Oppa: I know …  I know. Im sorry.
(next day)
“insert your name here” : I love you, Oppa.
Oppa: I love you, too, “insert your name here”

The end.

Anterograde Tomorrow

'Kyungsoo is stuck in the hours while Jongin begs the seconds, because time stops for someone who can’t remember and runs from someone who can’t miss the last train home.'

(Source: http://zachela.wordpress.com/2013/02/11/anterograde-tomorrow-quotes/)

Kyungsoo and Jongin are names of people.

Why is Kyungsoo stuck in the hours? Why is Jongin begging the seconds?
*Boy/Boy pairing

Anterograde Tomorrow

'Anterograde Tomorrow' is a popular kpop fanfiction that has captured the attention of millions of kpop fanfiction readers since 2012- especially fans of the kpop group 'EXO' because the main characters are from that particular group. (A One Direction fan even copy-pasted the entire story and changed the names into the people of One Direction. The fan plagiarized everything except the names.) Go to kpop fanfiction recommendation blogs and sites and I assure you, you will see 'Anterograde Tomorrow' in almost every one of them.

The author of 'Anterograde Tomorrow' goes by the pen-name of Changdictator. She prefers to remain anonymous. Besides fanfiction stories, she writes fanfiction drabbles (really short stories). She is one of the most famous fanfiction writers in the EXO fandom.

'Anterograde Tomorrow' is a fanfiction about two characters: Kyungsoo & Jongin. Basically, Kyungsoo has Anterograde Amnesia and Jongin is a writer he meets. Anterograde Amnesia is the loss of ability to remember anything after the event that caused the Amnesia. Kyungsoo keeps a scrapbook of things he learns each day to read them all over the next morning.

Literary Techniques

The writer uses several literary techniques in the fanfiction to make readers feel what the characters are feeling.

(Below are some examples)

Repetition:

- “Maybe there has been a day between today and yesterday. Maybe there has been more than a day.”

- “...how many ten o’clocks have you spent doing the same precise thing, with the same glue gun and same bucket of marbles and the toy from the day before the day before the day before all of yesterdays? How many times have you sat down at your empty dinner table and wondered if tomorrow you will remember today?”

Similes:

-“...slip between his fingers like fleeting memories.”
-“It’s as if his muscles are straining for something that his tendons hold back, as if he’s caught perpetually chasing some melody that is always a beat faster.”
-“Words are like little comets, streaking behind them a reign of tears and hesitation.”

Personification:

-“...the wind sharpening his bones and coursing through his hair...”
-“...melodies frosting delicate and translucent despite the suffocating atmosphere...”

-“More sour than disappointment, more bitter than loneliness.”

Contrast:

-“It’s so sad it’s funny.”
-“...watching an ant die under a magnifying glass and squealing in joy over the sadness of it all.”

Hyperbole:

-“... consonants broken full-stop and vowels tapering to infinity.”
-“His bones ache and his ribs cut into his lungs and he can’t breathe and everything hurts, spins, hurts, spins.”
-“There is only the tsunami of text and slow wave of music.”

These are just a few of many others that are throughout the fanfiction. She uses repetition to give emphasis on the topic. She uses similes and personification to give the readers a more vivid imagination of the scene and the characters' emotions. She uses contrast to give dark humor and again, more description to the scene/emotion. She uses hyperbole, once again, for deeper description.

'Anterograde Tomorrow' has inspired readers to create many trailers, fan edits, fan arts, and many other things dedicated to the story. There also have been many 'top-notch' reviews about this fanfiction, one of which is from a kpop fanfiction review blog:

Do I Recommend This?: Only if you don’t mind sad stories that will rip your heart out when you finish it and even when you have the slightest reminder of the story. This is 1) The first story that ever made me cry and 2) The first story I have ever voluntarily re-read. Therefore, it had a major impact on my reading life. Although it is only 4 chapters (if you count the prologue), they are pretty long, so it should take up a good amount of time if you read it all at once. They were all extremely well-written, descriptive, and overall amazing. The story gave an immense amount of suspense, along with feelings of sadness, guilt, sorrow, and depression. The story does go along with a few things that happen in real life, such as how Kai wanted to be a dancer and D.O. wanting to be a singer. The targeted audience of this story would be anyone, not just EXOtics or even kpop fans. To sum it all up, this story is probably the story that had the biggest impact on my reading and writing life, and I really hope I become as good an author as changdictator one day. I hope more of your stories will be as good and heart-touching as this one!

'Anterograde Tomorrow' continues to bring tears to fans even up till this day, and it will go on as a fanfiction legend.

I will end this with some memorable quotes and words.

-  You’re caught in time but time moves on. You can’t remember people coming or leaving.
The world diminishes around you while you’re stuck in the center.
All of your old friends leave or die and you can’t make new ones.
You can’t love. You can’t hate.

It was kind of funny, like watching a hamster run itself to death in a wheel,
for an exit that didn't exist.

Where does a thought go when it’s forgotten?”
Well, it dies. The thought dies.”
Don’t let me die, hyung. Promise me you’ll remember me.”

“My name is Jongin. I’m the writer who lives next door. See you tomorrow, hyung. Don’t forget!”

- "No, you don’t, because you don’t actually love me. Without all my notes, there is nothing. There is actually, exactly, really nothing. I’m really just a stranger to you, and this relationship is all just a play.
It’s just another novel. Fabrication. Everything.
I’m not even writing a fucking novel, fuck, I’m living it.”

- "You can remember tomorrow. I’ll remember all of our yesterdays."

“remember Jongin; our birthday tomorrow (13th January 2014).

- “I’m on borrowed time… How much do you think the interest is?

- Sleep takes Kyungsoo away, anyway.

- My name’s Kim Jongin. I call you hyung.
Yesterday you loved me. Today you’ll love me again.
